Both our “Cindy” and our “Free Little Bird” are based on the singing and banjo playing of Austin Harmon, a member of the musical Harmon family of Blount County, Tennessee. When the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was established in 1932, the Harmon family was displaced from Cades Cove to Maryville. Austin’s father, Samuel, reminisced about the “wild dances that would go on all night” and the enthusiastic ballad sharing among neighbors in their mountain community. In “Cindy,” we preserve Austin’s haunting song form and chord structure that distinguishes his version from the many other iterations of this familiar song.
Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo
I listen to this when I need music to lift my spirits. This whole album does that. This track is the very best but it all works. Keep doing what you do. oldbanjo61
