“Roll on Buddy” comes from the indomitable Aunt Molly Jackson: a union organizer who delivered a thousand babies, a Kentucky miner’s wife with a criminal record, and a notably slippery narrator of her own turbulent life. Jackson was a dedicated advocate for social justice and workers’ rights. This particular song likely began as a work song in the construction of the railroad system in the US. While we add harmony, we keep this track spare to honor Jackson’s unaccompanied ballad style.
Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo
I listen to this when I need music to lift my spirits. This whole album does that. This track is the very best but it all works. Keep doing what you do. oldbanjo61
